QatarEnergy to build new urea complex to double annual production

DOHA, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) — QatarEnergy announced on Sunday plans to construct a new world-scale urea production complex, which is expected to double Qatar’s current urea production from 6 million tons per annum (MTPA) to 12.4 MTPA.
The project includes the construction of three ammonia production lines that will supply feedstock to four new urea production trains in Mesaieed Industrial City, about 40 km south of the capital Doha, QatarEnergy said in a statement.
The company noted that the production of the first new urea train is expected to start before the end of 2030.
Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, Qatar’s minister of state for energy affairs and CEO of QatarEnergy, said at a press conference that the complex will make Qatar “the world’s largest urea producer.” ■
